Volunteers can try their hands at anything – dishwashing, preparing food, working front of house, barista training, helping us deliver talks and workshops, or dabbling in warehouse work.
Not at all, simply talk to one of the team to find out how we can fit you in around your lifestyle and our shifts.
If you would like to give volunteering a go, pop our volunteer coordinator a message over at volunteering@refusedurham.org.uk and they will get back to you as soon as possible
Built by volunteers, led by volunteers and fuelled by food waste.
We are always looking for people to join the team. Volunteers are vital to everything we do and we are always keen to grow the team to help us continue our mission.
Not only does our volunteer scheme give back to the community through delicious hot meals and hospitality, but our volunteers have also told us how much being in a warm, friendly team has helped them build confidence and provided them with a great sense of achievement.
“The thing with this place, it’s like a family. I’ve got family here, at home and with Handcrafted. I love working with ‘yous’. It’s community-based and to me, that’s the main thing” – Audrey.
Day by day, our team works together to rescue, organise and transform otherwise wasted food.
Split into morning and afternoon shifts, volunteers can try their hands at anything – dishwashing, preparing food, working front of hours, barista training or dabbling in warehouse work. We also offer a support scheme for individuals who may not feel confident enough to safely volunteer on their own through our Kitchen Confidence offer.
Hospitality experience is not a requirement, in fact, many people join the team to gain experience. Whether you are looking to make friends, to pass the time or to further your career there is a place for you at REfUSE.
As a volunteer you can also choose to help with our other community engagement projects. For example, our Eat Smart Schools program goes into schools, engaging primary school pupils in the causes and solutions to food waste.
There may also be opportunities to help us raise awareness around food waste by visititing local organisations, festivals or events, or hosting groups at our cafe.
If you would like to give volunteering a go, pop our Volunteering Manager Lee a message and he will get back to you as soon as possible.
Alternatively, if you feel ready to go ahead, you can complete this short Volunteer Application form.
