Each evening has a different guest chef and a theme depending on their expertise and passion. Examples include authentic Syrian food cooked by local Syrian refugees; French night including the most amazing Tarte Tatin, and sell-out vegan six-course tasting menus.

For 3-courses it is only £22.00 per person.
There is an additional £3 surcharge for menu options we have purchased specifically in line with our sustainability policy e.g. fish and meat. These dishes will be clearly marked and there will always be other options available. Dishes made with meat or fish from our normal collections will not be subject to the surcharge.
Filling our little electric van every day, we intercept tonnes of food each month from supermarkets and retailers around the North East that would have otherwise gone to waste.
In addition, we will occasionally be purchasing meat and fish in line with our sustainability policy. We will be showcasing local producers, growers and businesses with a focus on organic where possible. For example, Broom House Farm and Gibside Community Farm.
Our restaurant nights take place on Thursday evenings.
Join us and tuck into a 3-course £22/head restaurant-style dinner with a twist: the food we serve is driving the transition to a healthier, more sustainable food system. Most of the food we serve would otherwise have been destined for waste. We rescue it, see the quantity and quality of food deemed ‘worthless’, and revalue it by serving these amazing three-course dinners. We continue in our mission to end food waste, but also recognise that what we do is a really small part of a big complex interconnected food system.
From October 2024, in response to feedback from our customers, we will occasionally be purchasing meat and fish in line with our sustainability policy. We will be showcasing local producers, growers and businesses with a focus on organic where possible. We are introducing a £3 surcharge for these menu options, these dishes will be clearly marked and there will always be other options available. Dishes made with meat or fish from our normal collections will not be subject to the surcharge.
Our restaurant nights are so popular and one of our best ways of raising funds for the cafe’s community work. The difference REfUSE makes goes far beyond saving food from going to landfill. Our projects have made an impact on the health and mental health of our community, the values and decisions of supermarket executives, our high street’s economy, gender equality, community cohesion and welcome of refugees. People have eaten together across divides, children have had greater access to fresh fruit and vegetables, some have become climate change advocates and others have gone on to find paid employment.
