Thank you National Lottery players!
We have recently secured a £275,000 grant from the National Lottery Community Fund to support our volunteering programme over the next three years. The grant will help us provide valuable opportunities for people to volunteer in our café, warehouse and at community events.
As a social enterprise set up for community benefit, we rely heavily on the generosity of our customers to purchase food, volunteers to provide our services, individual supporters for one-off and regular donations and charities for grants. The National Lottery has recognised the valuable work we do in the community and have been able to contribute through the National Lottery Community Fund to our core costs for the next three years. Specifically, the grant will go towards the salaries of some of our staff who work directly with volunteers who might be sorting food, working in the cafe, preparing food in the kitchen or supporting our outreach work.
Over the three-year project period REfUSE will provide over 50,000 meals, will stop 300 tonnes of food going to waste, and provide opportunities for around 360 volunteers.
Volunteers can learn new skills, gain confidence, or simply meet new people and in doing so they are often inspired to make changes in their own households, communities and networks.
We are grateful to everyone who supports us at whatever level and in whatever way they can. Our Pay As You Feel ethos means payment in kind through volunteering regularly or, helping out with a specific task is just as valuable as financial support.
