This April marks 5 years since opening our cafe doors in Chester le Street for the very first time. What a journey it has been! Since the Café opened in 2018 over 60,000 volunteer hours have been given by over 200 volunteers to intercept 500 tonnes of food and drink, prepare 45,000 nutritious meals, and make up over 15,000 waste not boxes or bags of fresh food. In terms of CO2, that is equivalent to taking 900 cars off the road each year! We know it’s just the tip of the iceberg, there is so much more work to do in the fight to save our planet, but it’s still quite something.
